Role of prostaglandins in the response of the cerebral circulation to carbon dioxide in conscious rabbits.

چکیده
The role of prostaglandins in maintenance of resting cerebral blood flow (CBF) and in cerebral vaso dilatation during hypercapnia remains controversial. The effect of indomethacin, a cyclo-oxygenase inhibitor, on CBF and cerebrovascular resistance (CVR) was exam ined in conscious animals. Regional and total CBF were measured with radioactive microspheres, and the efficacy of blockade of prostaglandin synthesis by indomethacin was examined by the cranial window method. CBF was measured in conscious rabbits with 15-lLm radioactive mi crospheres during normocapnia (Peo2 = 30 mm Hg) and hypercapnia (Peo2 = 60 mm Hg), before and after intra venous administration of indomethacin (10 mg/kg) or ve hicle (n = 6 for each). Thus, each animal served as its own control. CBF was 84 ± 6 and 190 ± 27 (mean ± SE) mllmin/lOO g during normocapnia and hypercapnia, respectively, before indomethacin, and 78 ± 5 mllmin/l00 g during normocapnia and 180 ± 16 mllmin/lOO g during hypercapnia following indomethacin. Thus, indomethacin

Role of Local Nerves and Prostaglandins in Regulation of Basal Blood Flow and Hypercapnic Vasodilatation of Cerebral Blood Vessels in the Rabbit
The mechanisms underlying cerebral vasodilatation during hypercapnia are not fully understood. To examine the role of nerves and prostaglandins in the regulation of basal blood flow and in hypercapnia-induced vasodilatation in the cerebral blood vessels of rabbit.Cerebral blood flow was measured by laser Doppler flow-meter in 18 NZW rabbits anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital. Tetrodetoxin ...
متن کاملDifferential effect of three cyclooxygenase inhibitors on human cerebral blood flow velocity and carbon dioxide reactivity.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Prostaglandins are believed to play an important role in maintenance of cerebral blood flow and possibly in the vasodilatory response to carbon dioxide. Therefore, the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin, which inhibit cyclooxygenase, might be expected to reduce cerebral blood flow and the response to hypercapnia. This could induce cerebral ischemia in patien...
متن کاملEffects of carbon dioxide inhalation on cerebral blood flow and oxygen tissue level in spontaneously hypertensive rabbits.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Because previous studies have yielded conflicting results, this study was designed to investigate the efficiency of cerebrovascular reactivity to carbon dioxide in hypertension associated with moderate diffuse cerebral ischemic lesions. METHODS The effects of carbon dioxide inhalation on mean arterial blood pressure, heart and respiration rates, cerebral cortical blood ...
متن کاملEffects of meclofenamate and captopril on renal and other regional vascular beds after mild haemorrhage in conscious rabbits.
1. The role of prostaglandins and angiotensin II in blood flow regulation was studied in conscious rabbits subjected to mild haemorrhage. 2. Haemorrhage caused a 13% fall in arterial pressure and a 21% fall in cardiac output, responses which were unchanged by sodium meclofenamate, an inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis, or captopril, an inhibitor of the angiotensin converting enzyme. 3. Haemor...
متن کاملI-46: Obstetrical Doppler
Accurate assessment of gestational age, fetal growth, and the detection of fetal and placental abnormalities are major benefits of sonography. Color Doppler can be used to assist in the identification of vascular architecture, detection of vascular pathology and visualization of blood flow changes associated with physiologic processes and disease states. The clinical applications of obstetrical...
